The Connecticut Women's Hall of Fame on Thursday inducted three women into their honored ranks, two of whom have spent much of their lives working with National Public Radio and a photographer who has produced some of the world's most recognizable images.
The inductees honored at the Connecticut Convention Center were ground-breaking journalist Anne Garrels, celebrated broadcaster Faith Middleton, and internationally renowned photographer Annie Leibovitz.
The hall also honored a group of 10 "Voice and Vision" honorees for their considerable accomplishments. This year's group included CTNewsJunkie's own Christine Stuart, the site's editor-in-chief who has helped pioneer online capital news coverage, along with nine other outstanding women.
We didn't shoot the whole event, but you might see your face in the crowd below. However, you can expect many more official images from the whole event to be available in the near future at the Hall's website, which also offers a virtual tour through which you can learn more about the Hall and the history of its outstanding members.

The Young Democrats trounced the Young Republicans 22-13 Thursday evening in the 2nd annual charity softball game at Fusco Field in Wethersfield. The Democratic team led by state representative candidate Jason Bowser had a year of experience under their belts and that seemed to make all the difference. The Democrats got off to an early lead in the first inning and made it difficult for the Republicans, led by Lauren Casper, to catch up. Check out the full story hereandphotos by Sarah L. Hamby here.

CT PHOTO JUNKIE | Ultrasonic Rock Orchestra Lives Up to its Billing at SummerWind

Do you remember rock? It's easy to forget. Time passes and life grinds away at you and sometimes you can get disconnected from your musical roots.
On Sunday, July 29, 2012, at the SS&C SummerWind Performing Arts Center in Windsor, the Ultrasonic Rock Orchestra took a crowd of several hundred fans back to the moment they discovered that they loved rock'n'roll. This 10-vocalist ensemble has a HUGE sound and, dare we say it, they just play Brit-Rock songs better than a lot of the surviving original bands can play them today. Loud, fist-pumping songs that offer all the energy, harmony, complexity and depth intended by their original composers - including the Beatles, the Who, David Bowie, Led Zeppelin, Queen . . . you name it. They play it.
If you missed the show Sunday, make sure you get out to see them next time they're in the area - you won't be disappointed.

Hartford Police Chief Daryl K. Roberts told City Council members Tuesday that he does not support the proposed ordinance against racial profiling, suggesting that it will undermine officers' ability to do their jobs.
Roberts read a lengthy statement outlining questions and problems with the proposed ordinance. His testimony was supported by Assist. Corporation Counsel Nathalie Feola-Guerrieri and councilman Kenneth Kennedy, who suggested that racial profiling and immigration enforcement are two different issues and should be treated as such in the ordinance.

Hartford council hears public comment on proposed ordinance against racial profiling
19 photos
for sale
A public hearing on a proposed ordinance against racial profiling drew more than two dozen people to Hartford City Hall on Monday with a 2-to-1 speaker margin in favor of the ordinance. But some of the opposition to the regulation, which was proposed by council member Luis Cotto who drafted it with the help of a number of advocacy groups, brought strong emotions to the discussion. Most notable was Angel Arce, whose father - Angel Arce Torres - died last year after being struck by a hit-and-run driver in 2008. The council's Quality of Life and Public Safety Committee is scheduled to meet with police officials at City Hall at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 17, 2010, where committee members will have the opportunity to ask questions and hear what police have to say about efforts to eliminate racial profiling.
