The Sandy Hook 5k Run for the Families in Hartford on Saturday was held in honor of the families of the 26 victims of the Dec. 14, 2012, massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn.
About 15,000 runners registered for the event, making it the largest inaugural 5K event in Connecticut.
The race benificiary was the Sandy Hook School Support Fund, administered by the United Way of Western Connecticut in partnership with Newtown Savings Bank. A local board of Newtown community leaders is being convened to determine how the fund is most needed and will be best utilized. Photos by Josalee Thrift. Gov. Dannel P. Malloy finished in 26:38. The evening included a VIP reception, private cinema, silent auction, fashion and costume award winners, spectacular cuisine and drinks provided by local restaurants, and of course a visit from a Mark Twain impersonator.

Film enthusiasts and other members of Hartford's Oscar Night Committee gathered in their pajamas at Real Art Ways in Hartford on Tuesday morning to watch as nominations for the 84th Academy Awards were announced.
The party is a precursor to the main event on Sunday, Feb. 26, when Real Art Ways will be the home of Oscar Night Hartford in collaboration with the Connecticut AIDS Resource Coalition. The excitement and glamour of Hollywood will come to Hartford for the evening where local residents can experience the glamour and surprises of the 84th Academy Awards!

The Connecticut International Auto Show drew thousands to Hartford this weekend as the auto industry shows signs of a turnaround in Connecticut.
The Waterbury Republican-American reports that former city top cop Neil M. O'Leary is the next mayor. Preliminary results show the Democrat unseated Michael J. Jarjura, a five-term incumbent and former Democrat turned Republican. O'Leary was ahead by 375 votes with eight of 23 polling places reporting when Jarjura conceded.
