The Young Democrats trounced the Young Republicans 22-13 Thursday evening in the 2nd annual charity softball game at Fusco Field in Wethersfield. The Democratic team led by state representative candidate Jason Bowsza had a year of experience under their belts and that seemed to make all the difference. The Democrats got off to an early lead in the first inning and made it difficult for the Republicans, led by Lauren Casper, to catch up. Check out the full story hereandphotos by Doug Hardy here.

In its 16th season, WaterFire Providence is much more than what you'd expect. Walk the streets of Providence while you wait for the sun to set and the orchestra to begin - tip the street performers, dedicate a luminaria, dance along the sidewalks, order a drink and relax along the water. Hire a gondola and see the city from a new point of view. WaterFire is a free event but bring a few dollars for parking, fair fare, the local artisans or to help offset costs. These photos were taken at WaterFire, July 30, 2011.
The next WaterFire, weather permitting, is scheduled to take place on Saturday, August 13. Sunset will be at approximately 7:47 p.m.

Grossman's Seafood and Work Vessels for Veterans could not have chosen a better day for the 3rd annual Operation Lobster Dinner at the Naval Submarine Base in New London. The free dinner was accomplished with the help of more than 85 volunteers and local businesses, is Grossman's way of thanking active-service military members, veterans, retirees, and their families for their commitment and sacrifice. U.S. Sen. Richard Blumenthal and Congressman Joe Courtney were among those who stopped by to thank those who have served. Many of Connecticut's local beauty queens, including Miss Connecticut 2010, spent the day at the base. Work Vessels for Veterans is an all-volunteer 501c3 public charity whose mission is to assist returning veterans' transition into their civilian careers.

This year's al Fresco event was no exception - Dr. K's Motown Revue hit the stage and the first River Fire of the season (sponsored by Wheelabrator Putnam and Putnam Bank) was a delightful success. Thousands visited Putnam to dance the night away and then relaxed along the banks of the Quinebaug River.

"Have camera, will travel." Spent a day or so up in the great city of New York and visited the beautiful architectural wonder that is The Brooklyn Bridge for the first time. Metered parking nearby along with lovely parks and views you would not believe unless you'd been there. Pack a cooler - a day in the city does not have to lighten your wallet.
In fact, a salt water fishing permit is FREE so why not follow up your walk across the Brooklyn Bridge with a quick fishing trip in the East River. Check out Rikers Island, Fort Totten and a whole slew of other sites along the way!

A visit to the beach in New London, June 2011. This month's visit resulted in a few less scenery shots as I got distracted taking pictures of seagulls attacking the unattended snack foods of youthful beach-goers. Far be it from me to shoo away my photo-op...
