CT TECH JUNKIE | Boeing B-29 Superfortress 'Fifi' visits New England Air Museum | Jeff Kiely photos

  • 30 photos for sale Buy a Photo
  • The Boeing B-29 Superfortress "Fifi" - the last fully operational B-29 - landed at Bradley International Airport on Thursday for a three-day display to be held with the New England Air Museum from Friday, June 8 through Sunday, June 10, 2012.

The Commemorative Air Force restored "Fifi" in the early 1970s and brings the aircraft to airshows around the country. The B-29 Superfortress was the first heavy bomber built for the United States Army Air Force during World War II and was the most technically advanced of its time, entering service in 1944. Of about 4,000 aircraft built during World War II, only about 25 remain. "Fifi" is the only one still airworthy.

Tickets to see "Fifi" and the P-51 Mustang "Brat II" that accompanied it to Bradley can be purchased at the
New England Air Museum. Visitors can tour the B-29's cockpit for an additional fee. Flights on the aircraft also can be arraigned through the Commemorative Air Force. All proceeds benefit the Commemorative Air Force and the New England Air Museum.
